A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Shiawassee County beginning at 1am Wednesday February 6th and ending at 1pm later that day. We could see that Advisory upgraded based on a latest forecast model.
Ice accumulations are expected as are some snow accumulations. The combination of freezing rain, ice and snow will make the Wednesday morning commute slow.
Tuesday morning forecast models showed us falling somewhere in the middle to low end of total ice accumulations in the region. However, a midday update now suggests that we'll be on the high side of the midrange; midrange being a quarter to three tenths of an inch of ice.
The GFS forecast model in the image above marks Perry at more than four tenths of an inch of accumulation by Wednesday afternoon. The previous update had Perry in the fifteenth of an inch range, so that's a significant change.

Early on Tuesday, most forecasts were calling for two to three tenths of an inch of ice accumulation in our area, with the greatest storm impact south of Flint, in the Waterford area. The updated forecast shows the greatest accumulation of nearly six tenths of an inch in that same general area.
More ice is expected heading into Thursday morning. At this point, that event is not expected to add much to what we get on Wednesday.
