The Shiawassee County Fairgrounds is closed until June 1st. All events until that time are cancelled, the fair office recently announced, also noting that the camping lottery is postponed.

The fair office is also closed and the organization is responding to inquiries on Facebook through volunteers.

"Our priority during this time is the safety of our employees and members of the Shiawassee County Fair community. We are honoring the guidance provided by our county and state, while doing our best to evaluate decisions carefully and to the fullest extent. "

On Monday, the fair office said that June 1st is the organization's target "decision date" regarding the status of the 2020 Shiawassee County Fair. Read the full statement below.

"June 1 is our target “decision date” regarding the status of this year’s Fair. We recognize the importance of making informed decisions and not rushing. Our Fair Board is comprised of parents, 4-H leaders and community members who are extremely understanding of our exhibitors’ position and are committed to providing every opportunity possible as long as it is safe to do so.

While 4-H is an important partner in our fair, the statewide suspension of 4-H events does not encompass our fair as a whole and we are exploring ways to navigate that situation in order to best serve our county’s youth.

We are continuing to follow our county health department’s guidance and are continuing to plan for this year’s fair as best as we can under the “stay home” order.

Due to the closure of our office, this page is monitored by volunteers who are doing their best to keep up with an overwhelming number of questions and notifications. We appreciate your concern and passion for our fair."
