"It’s Really A Rough Road Now..."

Perfect Photo Captures Perry Area Construction Progress

For years, along westbound I-69, just past exit 105, a sign reading "Rough Road" may have caused commuters to ponder why, rather than fixing the road, instead, a sign was posted to warn drivers of the freeway imperfection.  All that is changing.  But before the construction project, slated to be completed in September, is finished, the road is getting even more rough.

The caption on a photo posted to Facebook by Missy Walworth on Monday August 5th reads "It’s really a rough road now..."

The photo appears to show large piles of gravel and dirt and a full missing section of pavement.

Previously, MDOT said the construction project would consist of resurfacing the majority of a 4.5 mile stretch of the roadway, but around 700 feet would involve a complete reconstruction.

While MDOT previously said it hoped the placement of signage ahead of the construction zone would encourage drivers to exit early and not contribute to backups, the project has seen significant driver delays -- as lengthy as 45 minutes, some regular commuters have told Perry-Laingsburg Pulse.

On the afternoon of Sunday August 4th, traffic moved below the posted speed, but was steady through the construction zone, which moved drivers across the median in places.

To avoid getting caught in traffic, eastbound drivers are encouraged to exit at Woodbury Road (#98) and take Lansing Road to Bancroft, re-entering fifteen miles later, at Grand River Road (#113).  Westbound drivers should leave the freeway at exit #113 and travel Lansing Road from Bancroft to the Woodbury Road exit, #98.
