The City of Perry says it's always looking for elections inspectors.  The job is a paid position and applications can be mailed or dropped off at Perry City Hall.

Election Inspector Job Description

Election Inspectors will conduct assigned duties at a polling site on Election Day. Duties can include (but are not limited to):

• Explaining how to mark the ballot or use the voting equipment
• Monitoring the voting equipment 
• Maintain accurate records during the voting process 
• Issuing ballots to registered voters 
• Swear or affirm the Oath of Office 
• Opening and Closing prescribed procedures 
• May be required to operate a laptop computer 
 Candidates must possess the following skills and meet these requirements:

• Registered to vote in the state of Michigan 
• Attend an educational training program (mandatory prior to working an election) 
• You must declare a Political Party Affiliation 
• Tech-Savvy 
• Quick learner 
• Excellent customer service 
• Ability to multi-task 
• Positive attitude

Applicants will not be considered if they are a challenger, candidate, member of a candidate’s immediate family or a member of the local board of canvassers. Applicants may not serve if they have been convicted of a felony or an election crime.

The U.S. Census Bureau is looking for people to join the team in Shiawassee County, gathering information for the 2020 Census.

To be eligible for a 2020 Census job, you must:

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Have a valid Social Security number. 
• Be a U.S. citizen. 
• Have a valid email address. 
• Complete an application and answer assessment questions. (Some assessment questions are available in Spanish. However, an English proficiency test may also be required.) 
• Be registered with the Selective Service System or have a qualifying exemption, if you are a male born after Dec. 31, 1959. 
• Pass a Census-performed criminal background check and a review of criminal records, including fingerprinting. 
• Commit to completing training. 
• Be available to work flexible hours, which can include days, evenings, and/or weekends. 

Most jobs require employees to have access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license, unless public transportation is readily available, and to have access to a computer with internet and an email account (to complete training).
