PERRY BUSINESSES VIE FOR A-LIST RECOGNITION
Hundreds of Shiawassee County Businesses Nominated In First Week

Hundreds of Shiawassee County businesses have been nominated for a spot on the second annual A-LIST presented by Uplift Shiawassee, the local "good" news website. The nomination period began on January 1st and runs until February 4th.
Among the Perry businesses nominated, are Plumb Bob's Precision Cuts and Central Pharmacy and, in Laingsburg, Tammy's Bakery & Cafe.
All Shiawassee County businesses that are nominated will appear in the preliminary round of voting that begins on February 11th. From there, the number of businesses will narrowed to five, for the final round of voting that will begin on March 4th.
The second year's results will be revealed on April 2nd.

Lit Ball Lowered to Ring in 2018 Breaks Loose and Slams Into Platform
Despite bone-chilling sub-zero temperatures, hundreds of people poured onto downtown Owosso streets to usher in the new year with a Times Square-style ball drop. The ball lowered in a seemingly usual fashion, but moments before midnight, seemed to get stuck. Then, less than a minute after the clock struck midnight and Auld Lang Syne began playing; fireworks illuminating the sky, somehow the ball broke free and fell, crashing into the platform below.
